Meet the Paradise Smiles Dental Staff!
Frank Dentremont DMD
Dr Dentremont has been a dentist for over half his life: 30 years to be exact! "Dr D" moved to the beautiful Gulf Coast back in 2003, a year before Hurricane Ivan, settling on Perdido Key, FL. He has spent the last seven years practicing his craft in Foley, Mobile, and now Orange Beach!
Dr Dentremont was born and raised near Bangor, Maine. His mother was a validictorian and schoolteacher, and his father was a World War II veteran sent to engineering school on the GI bill. Dr. D was active in his high school (lettering in three sports and lifeguarding in the summer) and entered Boston University on a scholarship as Salutatorian of his high school class.
Dr D graduated BU in 1977 and later that summer entered Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, graduating in 1980 (after a 3 year accelerated program) with his DMD degree. The state of Maine awarded Dr D a scholarship to return to Maine to practice dentistry, and he opened his first office near his hometown in the fall of 1980. This office was 75 miles from the nearest specialist and Dr D became experienced in all areas of dentistry, including oral surgery, root canals, crowns and bridges, braces, and children.
In early 1985, Dr Dentremont visited family in the Huntsville Alabama region and instantly was taken with the charm and beauty of that portion of Alabama. In June of that year, Dr D returned to Birmingham and obtained his Alabama dental license from UAB dental school. He returned to Maine and kept his AL license current for over 20 years.
In 1989, an economic downturn in his hometown area forced Dr D to relocate to Bangor Me - over 75 miles from his current office. He transitioned to a fledgling dental practice and later began his own successful practice in Bangor. Along the way he was elected by his dental colleagues to be an executive member of the Maine Dental Association, served as President of his constituent dental society, and later became the Maine representative to the Maine Dental Political Action Committee, where he regularly met with members of Maine political delegation.
In 2002 Dr D decided it was time to bid the difficult Maine winters goodbye and searched online for a suitable place in Alabama to relocate. A chance recruitment visit to the Gulf Coast easily convinced him that he had found a beautiful place of the world to complete his dental career, and he moved down here in October 2003.
Dr Dentremont has experienced the rigors of the Gulf Coast region since 2003. In September 2004 there was nearly 4ft of seawater in his home courtesy of Hurricane Ivan. He was forced to relocate to an apartment intown Pensacola until June 2006 when his new home was completed on Innerarity Point Road near Perdido Key. The hurricane had also crippled the economy in Foley which forced him to seek work in Mobile. He became the Lead Dentist for a pediatric dental clinic serving the underserved for almost 4 years. In 2007 Dr D began the process of building his own practice in Orange Beach which opened its doors as Paradise Smiles Dentistry in March of 2008. Dr D has been working diligently in his new office while continuing to work in area dental facilities on a part time basis.
